What it means to place a marker.
A marker is an act of witness and remembrance. It does not mean someone was detained at the location where it stands.
It stands for lives that have been removed from view, but not from memory.
People who have been detained, transferred, separated from their families and communities may disappear from our daily view. Their lives do not.
