TAKEN HERE
Removed from view. Not from memory.
TAKEN HERE is a remembrance project that uses public markers to keep people taken by immigration enforcement from disappearing from public memory.
Each marker says:
They were here. They matter.
We remember them here.
A TAKEN HERE marker placed by a community member in Minneapolis, Minnesota
A TAKEN HERE marker does not mean someone was detained where it stands. It marks a home, business, or community space that refuses to let people and families affected by immigration enforcement be forgotten.
You do not have to know someone who was detained, and the detention does not have to have happened on your street. The marker is a public act of remembrance.
A marker —
A visible sign that lives changed by immigration enforcement will not be forgotten.
A shared remembrance —
A way to make remembrance visible in your neighborhood and community.
A refusal to forget —
A visible promise that people removed from our communities will not be removed from public memory.

Make remembrance visible where you are.
Place a marker at your home, storefront, faith community, school, workplace, or gathering space. Each one says that people affected by immigration enforcement remain part of our public memory.
TAKEN HERE is beginning—0ne marker at a time.
The first 36 markers are now being displayed across five states. Some were purchased, some were gifted, and each is helping make remembrance visible in a new place.
The map shows where TAKEN HERE markers have been placed.
A TAKEN HERE marker is a visible way to honor people and families changed by immigration enforcement–and keep their lives present in public memory, wherever you live.

“Witnessing an immigration enforcement operation on my own street left an everlasting mark on me. TAKEN HERE is my way of ensuring affected lives are not forgotten — and inviting others to bear witness, remember, and choose not to look away.”
— Andrea
Founder & Creator
I’m Andrea, the founder of TAKEN HERE. The project began after I witnessed immigration agents detain Andrés on my Saint Paul street. What began as one act of witness has grown into a public invitation to remember—and to make that remembrance visible.
